Saucy Monky - Rockin' at L. A's Molly Malone's Text and photos by Sandra T. Molina

Playing last April 7th for only the second time with a brand new
rhythm section, Cynthia Catania and Annmarie Cullen - the nexus of
pop /rock group Saucy Monky, led the band through a ripping and
rougher -edged show, more so than the group’s previous
manifestation. The songs have always been great, but there
seemed to be a new vigor and sense of force behind the Saucy
Monky repertoire, and the audience lapped it up.
Catania and Cullen were in top form as they played their set
featuring a number of newer songs, all the while leading drummer
Karen Teperberg and bassist Steve Giles through the process of
getting 'saucified,'
The new songs proved once again that Catania and Cullen are
two of the most talented songwriters around and their material
doesn’t disappoint. Sprinkled in with the new tunes were classic
Saucy Monky standards, “Good Day Down,” “Speedball” and “Pink
Flamingos.” Once again, Saucy Monky, proved why they are one of
the most popular acts in L.A. They produce skilled, top-notch, 'grab
you by the collar, tug at your heart , kick you in the ass' rock ‘n’ roll.

Marina V. Live at Hotel Café, Los Angeles, CA Text and photos by Sandra T. Molina

Singer/songwriter Marina V. celebrated receiving her U.S. citizenship
in front of a packed house at Hotel Café on February 15th 2006.
The evening was not only special because of her new status as an
American citizen, but it’s a real treat when Marina is accompanied
by a band. Although Marina is extremely capable of providing an
entertaining show on her own, the rich sound of a full band gave
a more lush and yet raw sound to the songs.
The set, which Marina sprinkled with colorful anecdotes about
working for less than minimum wage under less than desirable
conditions when she first came to the U.S. from Russia, was filled
with songs from her latest CD, Simple Magic. The audience was
totally engaged as the band played each song with such vibrancy
that they sounded even better than the recorded versions. The
great time that Marina and her band mates were having onstage
was easily felt in the audience and only enhanced the performance.
Ending the show with “Something of My Own,” – a song about
thinking for yourself despite your circumstances and what you are
taught growing up – was a perfect way to end an inspiring evening
both personally and artistically.
